An Iowa City man has been taken into custody after allegedly strangling a woman while she was driving.
The incident occurred Sunday morning at 10:49. 28-year-old Shamond Carter of Whispering Meadow Drive was in a vehicle while the woman was driving along Bradford Street in Iowa City. She had her window down, and Carter allegedly complained that he was cold. They engaged in an argument while she was driving.
The woman alleges that Carter began strangling her and punching her, almost causing her to not breathe and nearly strike a parked car.
Carter had a previous domestic assault impeding airflow conviction in Johnson County in 2017. He was charged with his second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, and as of Monday morning was being held in the Johnson County Jail on $3000 bond.
