An Iowa City woman faces theft charges after allegedly taking checks from a victim’s checkbook and cashing them.

Police say the incidents occurred at the 3rd Avenue residence shared by the victim and 29-year-old Renee Seydel the afternoon of November 12th.  The victim reported that Seydel wrote a check made out to someone for $500 using a check from the victim’s checkbook. She also wrote another check out to herself for $200, signing the victim’s name. Upon questioning, Seydel allegedly admitted to taking the checks from the victim’s checkbook without the victim’s knowledge.

Seydel was taken into custody and charged with 4th and 5th degree Theft. If convicted on the charges, she faces up to 13 months in prison.
