An Iowa City man who was wanted on assault charges was found with a controlled substance when arrested.

Police placed 27-year-old Dwayne Eskridge of Kirkwood Avenue under arrest during a stop in North Liberty at the intersection of Heritage Drive and Heritage Place Thursday shortly after 10:30pm.

A search incident to arrest reportedly turned up alprazolam in his pocket in a baggie. Eskridge has prior Johnson County possession convictions in 2014, 2018, and 2019.

The warrant stemmed from an October incident in North Liberty when Eskridge allegedly struck a man on the side of the leg with a metal crowbar.

The two charges are each aggravated misdemeanors punishable by a combined total of up to four years if convicted.
