A Coralville man was taken into custody after a late Saturday night incident that reportedly included a vehicle/foot chase and an ensuing altercation with officers.

According to police, they observed 37-year-old Draper Lewis of 3rd Avenue heading northbound in the 400 block of 1st Avenue, going 41miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. The officer turned around and activated his lights, but Lewis reportedly drove on, ignoring them.

Lewis then went west on 6th street, prompting the officer to activate his siren as well, but Lewis then turned northbound on 3rd Avenue. He then reportedly exited his vehicle and took off on foot. Officers on scene ordered him to stop, and Lewis was apprehended. He allegedly resisted and fought with them until he was handcuffed and taken to the Johnson County Jail.

Lewis is initially charged with Eluding and Interference with Official Acts, and could be sentenced to up to 13 months in prison if convicted.
