A Coralville woman faces charges that she attacked the father of her child with a knife, then vandalized his car.

Coralville Police say 35-year-old Gita Thomas got into a physical altercation with the father of her child just before 6:45 Friday morning at her Boston Way residence. Thomas allegedly picked up a large kitchen knife and attacked the man, causing small cuts to both of his hands and a small cut to the chest.

Thomas then allegedly used the knife to pierce one of the tires on the man’s car. Police say she also threw two of the man’s cellphones in the toilet.

The total estimated damage to the tire and cellphones is $1,550. Thomas was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Using a Weapon and 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
