A Hiawatha man with a long criminal history was charged with theft on warrants stemming from an incident in Swisher.

Police say the alleged crime took place on June 27th of last year. 24-year-old Dallas Clark was pulled over by Johnson County deputies around 5:45am for an alleged traffic violation. He was then arrested for driving while barred, and his truck was impounded.

Several burglaries were reported that same day to Iowa City police that had occurred during the previous overnight hours. County detectives obtained a search warrant on Clark’s truck and found several items in the vehicle that matched the description of items stolen. Among them were a men’s Trek bicycle in the truck bed valued at nearly $700, and nearly $6900 in tools and accessories from a business that had unique markings tying Clark to the theft.

Thursday, Clark was charged with 2nd and 4th degree Burglary, and could be sentenced to up to six years in prison if convicted.

Clark has been in court this week on previous charges. On Wednesday, he was given a five year suspended sentence and three years probation on a string of burglary and theft charges; a third degree burglary of a motor vehicle was dropped.  Thursday, he agreed to a plea deal on 3rd degree Burglary charges . He was given a two-year suspended sentence, 1 year of probation, and a year in a residential facility.

His history of criminal charges go back to 2012, when he was a juvenile.
