Blame it on the holiday blues, blame it on politics overload, blame it on pandemic burnout.

Whatever the reason, the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division announced that liquor sales for the month of December reached an all-time record.

According to the release, Iowans bought $42.8 million worth of liquor last month, an increase of nearly 18 ½ percent over the December 2019 and the highest grossing month in Alcoholic Beverages Division history.

The state is on pace to break the record for fiscal year sales that was set in fiscal year 2020, which ended June 30th.

Profits from liquor sales are pumped back into the state’s General Fund and to the Iowa Department of Public Health for administration of substance abuse and prevention programs.
