Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in the state to be lowered to half-staff Sunday.

The order, which extends through sunset Wednesday, is in honor and remembrance of Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood, who lost their lives as a result of the insurgence at the US Capitol last week.

The governor extended the honor to all law enforcement officers in Iowa and across the country. In a statement released Sunday, Reynolds said, “May God continue to bless and watch over the brave men and women of law enforcement who willingly put themselves on the line to protect our people, our communities, and uphold the rule of law.”

Reynolds followed the lead of President Trump, who signed a proclamation Sunday ordering American flags to be flown at half-staff on federal property to mourn the officers, days after flags at the Capitol had already been lowered.
