The University of Iowa has cancelled all study abroad programs for most of 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to the school’s Friday COVID-19 update, UI officials have decided there will be no study abroad or university-sponsored student travel outside the U.S. through Aug. 1.

The update says school officials are confident that with the development of COVID-19 vaccines, travel will become more prevalent in the latter part of 2021.

In the meantime, both virtual international courses and virtual internships are available for UI students, and UI Study Abroad is accepting applications for a limited number of programs departing after Aug. 1. For additional information about this process and contingencies, see the full announcement on the UI International Programs website.

The university has also announced that while there will be no spring break during the spring 2021 semester, there will be two days set aside as instructional breaks to give students a respite from instruction: Tuesday, March 2nd and Wednesday, April 14th.
