Iowa City Liberty football coach Jeff Gordon has resigned.

According to a news release from the school, Gordon plans to spend more time with his family.

Gordon is the only head football coach the school has known. In the three years since the varsity program came into existence, Gordon’s Liberty teams have gone 12-12. Gordon led the team to its first winning record in 2019, and helped guide the Lightning’s transition from Class 3A to 4A in 2020.

Two of Iowa City’s three public schools will have new head coaches in 2021. Mitchell Moore took over for Dan Sabers at City High after the 2020 season.
