Two men have been arrested after an alleged assault at a University of Iowa parking lot.

Police were dispatched to the Hawk Lot off Hawkeye Park Road at 6:40pm Monday on reports of a physical assault. Witnesses and the victims provided a description of the men and the vehicle they drove off in.

The officer observed the vehicle, a white 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, turning off Hawkeye Park Road and made a stop on it. The victims were able to positively identify the suspects as those who assaulted them.

Police arrested 18-year-old Malik Yelvington of Goose Lake Circle in North Liberty, and 23-year-old Cecil Griffin of Highway 1 West in Iowa City. They’ve been each charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor. Both men could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.
