Registration has opened for enrollment in the Iowa City Community School District’s permanent virtual schooling tool.

Gregg Scholtz, Director of PK-12 Online Learning for the district, said this first registration window for ICCSD Online runs through April 12th. A second window will open in June, which will allow parents to change their enrollment decision as late as July 1st.

The Daily Iowan reports that parents will be allowed to change their enrollment decision at the end of the 2021 school year’s first trimester.

The State of Iowa approved the district’s permanent online program this past October. The district began plans to implement a fully-online curriculum as early as 2018 but it was put aside due to budget limitations. But when the COVID-19 pandemic forced classes online, Iowa City was one of the few districts in the state to develop their own online learning program.

Scholtz told the Daily Iowan that he expects enrollment to be somewhere between 5-10 percent of the student population.
