A passenger in a car stopped by police in North Liberty Sunday night now faces weapon and drug charges.

According to the arrest report, the incident occurred on the 900 block of Front Street just before 11pm.

25-year-old Renisha Britt of Flint Michigan was sitting in the backseat when the vehicle she was riding in was stopped by authorities. A strong odor of marijuana was reportedly detected upon contact with the vehicle, and officers conducted a probable cause search.

A Smith and Wesson handgun with a loaded extended magazine was reportedly found in a backpack sitting next to Britt, and a records check showed that she had no permit to carry.

Britt was arrested, and allegedly admitted that she also had marijuana concealed on her person. Eight grams were reportedly recovered.

Britt has been charged with carrying weapons and marijuana possession. She could be sentenced to up to three years in prison if convicted on both counts.
