An Iowa City transient who has been the subject of numerous police calls in recent months has finally been arrested.

Iowa City Police have responded to at least 18 calls for service in the last two months reporting 35-year-old Danielle Syvixay huffing cans of compressed air at various locations. Each time she has been described as being in a state of impairment, suffering from seizure-like symptoms and/or falling into unconsciousness. And each time Syvixay has declined medical attention.

Around 1:30pm on April 15th, officers responded to Shelter House, which Syvixay lists as her residence, for a report of an unconscious subject outside. Investigators say they found Syvixay huffing compressed air inside a bus shelter on the 400 block of Southgate Avenue. There were several empty bottles of compressed air scattered around her.

Police described Syvixay as being slumped over, semi-conscious, convulsing, and deeply impaired. She later told first responders that she didn’t remember falling over or being semi-conscious. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, then arrested for Public Intoxication. She pleaded guilty and was fined $105.
