Iowa City man accused of breaking into residence armed with knife

An Iowa City man faces multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a residence.

According to police, 35-year-old Marvis Jackson of Muscatine Avenue was called in on report of a man who had broken an exterior window and entered a residence on the 2100 block of Wayne Avenue at around 2:30 am Tuesday. Arriving officers spoke to Jackson, who produced a kitchen knife which had been concealed in his pants pocket. The knife had a blade approximately 6 ½ inches long and Jackson had no permit to carry a weapon.

Police say that Jackson admitted to being intoxicated, but refused to participate in field or chemical testing.

The cost to replace the shattered window was estimated to be $100.

Jackson was arrested and charged with Carrying Weapons, 1st offense Trespass, Possession of a Weapon while Committing a Crime, Public Intoxication and 5th degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
