A local transient faces an assault charge after a fight at Shelter House that left another man injured by a shattered glass bottle.

38-year-old Calvin Edwards was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 1am Thursday. Edwards was wanted for a May 22nd incident at the Southgate Avenue facility in which he allegedly struck another man in the face and knocked him to the ground without provocation. The victim was holding a glass bottle at the time, which shattered on the floor. The man fell into the broken glass, causing what police describe as a five centimeter laceration to his left wrist which caused venous bleeding and required emergency treatment at a local hospital. The victim also suffered abrasions to his knees, bruising and an abrasion to his right forearm and pain in his head and face.

The alleged assault was captured on security video.

Edwards is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
