A fireworks display accidentally discharging indoors damaged a residence near the Coralville Reservoir Saturday afternoon.

According to the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department Facebook page and the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center web site, crews were dispatched to a residence on Hawthorn Court in rural Solon just after 2pm Saturday for what was described as “a large pyrotechnic event inside a house.” Arriving firefighters found flames inside an attached garage. The blaze was knocked down within minutes of crews arriving on the scene, and was contained to the garage unit with minimal smoke extension to the house.

Investigators tell KCJJ that the pyrotechnics discharge was accidental.

Fire crews from North Liberty, Solon, Ely, Fairfax and Cedar Rapids assisted.
