Members of the Iowa Freedom Riders plan to attend tonight’s Iowa City Community School Board meeting to show support for a board member they say has been subject to white supremacy incidents.

In a post on their social media account, the group says that the District’s July 13th meeting was interrupted by a, quote, “white supremacist ranting about the falsehoods of racial injustice, the school board’s teaching of issues involving the LGBTQIA community, and flashing white power hand symbols.”  The individual reportedly sat right in front of board member Ruthina Malone in an effort to intimidate her.

Moore has been subject to racist incidents over the last year. The Freedom Riders say that she has received emails calling her names like “ghetto,” “BLM terrorist,” and the n-word.

The post from IFR encourages members to come to tonight’s ICCSD meeting to show solidarity with black community leaders, and to make signs or shirts to show support of the black community.
