Two Cedar Rapids residents face charges after a search of their vehicle during a traffic stop turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The incident occurred just after 8pm Thursday on Highway 218 Southbound near Iowa City. The arrest reports don’t indicate who was driving, but 43-year-old Kasey McNamara and 29-year-old Brittni Norton of Miller Avenue Southwest were stopped for speeding. A police canine conducted an open air sniff on the vehicle and alerted positive to drugs.

A subsequent probable cause search allegedly turned up over 56 grams of marijuana, three small packages of THC edibles, and multiple pipes used for smoking narcotics.

McNamara and Norton were each charged with a Tax Stamp violation, a Controlled Substance violation and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, they each could face over ten years in prison.
