A North Liberty woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly taking someone’s newly acquired vehicle without permission and causing significant damage to it during a traffic accident while allegedly under the influence.

Police were called to Penn Street and Meade Drive for a two-vehicle accident Tuesday at around 3:45pm. They came upon 19-year-old Dayanna Yoder of Savannah Drive, who allegedly admitted causing the accident. She reportedly had taken the vehicle, a 2008 Kia Rondo, without permission from the owner who had just purchased it and hadn’t yet transferred it into their name. Yoder took the car to a gas station, backing into another vehicle on the roadway when leaving. There was significant damage to the other vehicle, and noticeable damage to the Kia she was driving.

Police say Yoder had a very strong odor of ingested alcohol and bloodshot watery eyes. She reportedly refused field sobriety tests and chemical testing.

Yoder has been charged with first offense OWI and Operating a Vehicle without Owner Consent. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
