Solon woman, 3 juveniles among 6 people injured in weekend head-on collision in Benton County

A Johnson County woman and three juveniles were among six people injured in a weekend accident in Benton County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 43-year-old Julie Viet of Solon was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla eastbound in the westbound inside lane of Highway 30 south of Atkins just before 8:30 Saturday night when she struck a 2010 Dodge Avenger head-on. A third vehicle, a 2014 Ford Fiesta being driven by 54-year-old Ramon Rodriguez of Toledo, was damaged when it struck debris from the first accident.

Viet, 18-year-old Brooklyn Purkeypile of Des Moines, and three juveniles were transported via ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The driver of the Avenger, 19-year-old Keagan Devore of Des Moines, was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The accident remains under investigation.
