An employee of Papa John’s Pizza in Iowa City faces charges that he created fake bank deposits in a scheme to steal money from the business.

According to Iowa City Police, 23-year-old Robert Taylor of the Squaw Creek Village manufactured housing community in Marion created bank deposits for the Gilbert Street restaurant, but they never made it to the bank. Over a period of ten days earlier this month, Taylor allegedly would withdraw excess money from the safe and create an entry that looked like it was delivered to the bank. The entries used fictitious bag numbers, and Papa John’s manager confirmed the money was never deposited at the bank.

Taylor was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 7:15 Tuesday night and charged with 4th Degree Theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
