State Board of Regents President Mike Richards has sent an e-mail to state-run university employees asking them to voluntarily submit documentation of their COVID-19 status.

The Daily Iowan reports that the regents are evaluating and preparing for the impact of a vaccine mandate exemption law signed by Governor Kim Reynolds, and the executive order mandating vaccinations from the Biden administration.

The regents earlier this month voted to allow employees to obtain religious exemptions from federal vaccine mandates.

In their e-mail, employees are given the option of getting an exemption by submitting documentation affirming a sincerely held religious, moral or ethical belief, that getting a vaccine would be detrimental to the health of the employee or a member of the employee’s household, or a qualifying medical condition or disability.

The regents previously strongly encouraged employees to be vaccinated ahead of the fall semester.
