An Iowa City transient has additionally charged after allegedly attempting to enter the residence of a protected party who has a no-contact order against him.

Police say that between October of 2019 and January of this year, 42-year-old Thomas Paintin has come to the victim’s property on at least 9 occasions that were caught on the victim’s surveillance system. He is seen several times attempting to unlock the victim’s front and/or rear door while the victim was inside.

A no contact order was issued against Paintin in November 2019, but he continued to return to the victim’s residence, most recently on January 3rd.

The victim reports being in constant fear of Paintin and his intentions should he were to gain entry into the residence. The victim also is fearful due to the seemingly random occasions Paintin has come to their home.

Paintin was taken into custody the day of the last incident and was being held on contempt charges, as well as two assault charges from 2021. A warrant was issued Wednesday and he was served with a stalking charge, a Class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
