The Iowa City Fire Department has a new chief.
City Manager Geoff Fruin chose Scott Lyon out of 12 applicants and got unanimous approval from the City Council on Tuesday.
He comes from the Urbandale Fire Department, where he’s served for eight years. Lyon has a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration and a master’s in organizational leadership.
He replaces John Grier, who retired on February 11th as fire chief after serving nearly 30 years in the department.
Lyon’s official start date will be April 4th.
