An Iowa City man who allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend on at least two occasions last year has been taken into custody.

During an argument at the couple’s Bowery Street residence on May 29th, 25-year-old Roland Mourning allegedly pushed a door into the woman’s face, cutting her lip.

A second incident reportedly occurred December 5th. Officers were called to the residence just before 4 am on reports of a woman who had been injured during a domestic dispute. Mourning’s girlfriend alleged that he hit her in the face with a spray paint can, and put her in a headlock which restricted her breathing. She reportedly had swelling to her face, and cuts to her scalp, lip and neck. The woman also complained of pain on various parts of her body.

A warrant was issued for Mourning’s arrest on February 7th, and he was arrested Monday morning. He faces two counts of Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury and one count of Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow. If convicted on all charges, Mourning faces  up to seven years in prison.
