IC Police: Naked UI student attacked officer, tried to steal patrol ca

Iowa City Police say a naked University of Iowa student attacked an officer and attempted to steal a patrol car.

The ICPD Daily Activity log indicates officers were called to the corner of Dodge and Fairchild Streets just after 4:45 Friday morning for a naked man walking westbound. Just after 5:30am a second caller reported the man was on top of a playground structure at Horace Mann Elementary School.

Arriving officers found the man in question, 21-year-old Thomas Greene of North Linn Street, on the 400 block of Fairchild Street. When one officer exited the passenger seat of the patrol car, Greene allegedly rushed the vehicle, pinned the officer to the side of the car and tried to rip the door open. Greene reportedly began screaming about how he could do anything he wanted, and he was going to take the patrol car. The officer sustained injuries including numbness and pain in his arm.

Greene was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Peace Officer, Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all charges, Greene faces a maximum of 14 years in prison.
