A call to police relating to Monday night’s shooting at Mercer Park has led to charges against an Iowa City teen who allegedly tried to hamper the execution of a search warrant.

According to the Iowa City Police Daily Activity Log, just before 2:45 Tuesday afternoon  a caller to 9-1-1 reported being chased by subjects in a grey Pontiac at the East Burlington Street Kum & Go. The caller claimed the people chasing him were the same ones who had shot at him the previous day, and that he had fled to the nearby Robert A. Lee Recreation Center.

Juvenile contact records acquired by KCJJ show a short time later police began securing a vehicle for a search warrant in the Kum & Go parking lot . A 16-year-old Tate High School student arrived on the scene just after 3:30pm and was informed of the situation. Police say the teen first stood in front of the vehicle and refused to move before he began grabbing at towing equipment while vowing that the car was not going to be moved. An Iowa City Police officer intervened, leading to a brief scuffle and the teen being forced to the ground and taken into custody. He’s charged with Interference With Official Acts.

The ICPD is continuing its investigation into Monday night’s Mercer Park shooting, which occurred just before 8pm. There were no reported injuries.

21-year-old Marquise Hubbard of Cedar Rapids was reportedly found near the scene in possession of a Palmetto 9mm handgun and over nine grams of marijuana, although there is no indication that he fired the gun during the incident. Hubbard is charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons and Marijuana possession. He could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
