A Coralville man could face decades in prison after a reported break-in and assault earlier this week.

Coralville Police say 25-year-old Samuel Evans of 9th Street went to the 10th Street residence of his baby’s mother just before 4:15 Thursday afternoon and began banging on the door. When the woman failed to answer, Evans reportedly kicked in the door, entered the home and struck the woman in the face with a cellphone when she threatened to call 9-1-1, causing a minor injury.

Evans then fled the scene. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 7:30 Thursday night and charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 26 years in prison.
