The Iowa Board of Regents approved a 4.25 percent tuition hike across the three state universities.

Resident students at The University of Iowa will pay $355 more for undergraduate studies, and $433 more for graduate studies. Non-residents will pay the same dollar increase, but because their tuition is higher, that breaks down to a 1.2 percent increase for undergraduates and 1.5 percent for graduate students.

The Regents said the tuition hikes were necessary because the Iowa Legislature came up short on their funding increase.

According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the $20.1 million estimated tuition revenue increase will be the biggest at the U of I since 2017.

Adding in new fee, room and board rate increases, the total cost of attendance for resident undergraduates this coming year is estimated at nearly $26,700 at the University of Iowa. At Iowa State, the cost is just under $23,500, and nearly $22,000 at the University of Northern Iowa.
