A year-long search for a new health care system had led Mercy Iowa City right back where it started.

Hospital officials announced in an email to staff Thursday that Mercy Iowa City would be sticking with MercyOne. That move comes a year after Mercy Iowa City officials said they were dropping MercyOne to look for a larger network.

Mercy Iowa City Acting President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Trachta said in the email that the change of plans was due to “significant changes that could not have been anticipated”. He went on to say that while Mercy Iowa City looked at other potential partners, none of them were “a good long-term fit”.

MercyOne has been Mercy Iowa City’s managing partner since June of 2017.

The email also announced the departures of Mercy Iowa City’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, Dawna Miller,  and the hospital’s vice president and chief operating officer, Judy Andronowitz.
