A fatal drug overdose has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.

19-year-old Makhi Seals of Dover Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4:30 Sunday morning. According to arrest records, Seals called Johnson County deputies to a residence in the Sunrise Village manufactured housing community just after 11:30 Saturday night for an unresponsive person.  The victim died on the scene from a believed drug overdose.

Deputies report seeing a digital scale inside Seals’ vehicle. A search of the 2003 Honda Accord reportedly turned up approximately three grams of a substance believed to be heroin. The box in which the digital scale came was found in the trash of the trailer where the victim died.

Seals was arrested and charged with a Controlled Substance Violation. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
