KCRG-TV9 is slated to host a debate for Iowa’s Second Congressional District with Republican incumbent Ashley Hinson and Democrat Liz Mathis on October 12.

According to the station, they’re partnering with KWQC in the Quad Cities and KCCI in Des Moines, as well as KTTC covering Mason City-Rochester to put on the debate, ensuring audiences across the new Second District will be able to see the debate just ahead of Iowa’s early voting period. All four stations will carry the debate on their broadcast and streaming platforms. The debate is scheduled from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at KCRG-TV9 Studios.

Hinson is running for her second term in Congress, and is positioning herself as a staunch opponent to policies enacted by the Biden administration. She currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee.

Mathis has been in the State Senate for 10 years and has targeted Hinson’s votes against the Build Back Better infrastructure program, the American Rescue Plan, and the Inflation Reduction Act. She also has criticized Hinson’s support of anti-abortion legislation.

Both candidates are former anchors and reporters for KCRG TV. Interested voters can submit questions via an online form; a link to the form can be found below.
