A University of Iowa student faces charges that he beat another man into unconsciousness early Saturday morning.

Iowa City Police say security video shows 20-year-old Franklin Homb of East Jefferson Street running across the street near the intersection of Gilbert and Market Streets to confront the victim just before 1:45am. Homb then reportedly punched the man with no warning and jumped on top of him.

The video then reportedly shows Homb engage in an altercation with a second subject who was with the victim before fleeing with his friends. Police say the victim was left unconscious in a pool of his own blood. He was transported to a local hospital with broken and missing teeth, a broken nose, facial swelling and at least one wound that required stitches.

Police say they later found and arrested Homb and discovered him carrying a fake driver’s license. He’s charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Possession of a Fictitious Driver’s License. If convicted on both charges, Homb faces a maximum of 11 years in prison.
