A University of Iowa business student faces over two decades in prison if convicted on charges that he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and assaulted her early Sunday morning.
Iowa City Police were called to the Telluride Apartments on East Court Street just after 12:45am for a subject trying to force his way into a residence. Arriving officers were told that 21-year-old Carson Schau of North Van Buren Street had been pounding on his ex-girlfriend’s door demanding to be let in, then tried to push his way inside when the woman and several others answered. Police say Schau began swinging his fists as he was being held back, striking his ex in the face. The woman suffered swelling and redness.
Schau reportedly showed signs of intoxication, had a breath alcohol level of .227% and admitted to consuming approximately nine drinks.
Schau was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2am and charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 26 years in prison.
