An Iowa City man was sentenced this week to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing meth that resulted in a man’s death.

KWWL TV reports that first responders arrived at 50-year-old Eric Jonathan Hojka’s apartment over a report of an unconscious man. Paramedics failed to revive the man, pronouncing him dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that Hojka provided drugs to the man, resulting in his death from methamphetamine intoxication.  Hojka also reportedly obtained and distributed large amounts of meth over the span of several months.

Hojka pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute at least 50 grams of meth, or distributing a mixture of substances that contained methamphetamine – resulting in death.

Hojka’s sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the Iowa City Police Department and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
