Coralville Police arrest armed robbery suspect

Coralville Police arrested an armed robbery suspect shortly after the alleged incident Monday morning.

In a release from the Department, officers responded to the report of an armed robbery at 2551 Holiday Road at approximately 11:28 am.

Two victims were approached as they exited their apartment and were ordered back inside at gunpoint, where their cell phones were stolen, before the suspect fled the area on foot.

The first officer to arrive saw the suspect running northeast of the scene, prompting the area school and businesses to be notified of the situation.

Approximately ten minutes later, 21-year old transient Jovon Ellis was arrested after a short foot chase. The stolen cell phones and a CO2 pistol were recovered nearby.

Ellis was transported to the Johnson County jail, where he is awaiting an initial appearance on a complaint of 1st degree Robbery. If convicted of the charge, Ellis could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.
