An Iowa man was arrested early Saturday morning at a downtown Iowa City bar after using another person’s debit card to purchase drinks.

The incident occurred at DC’s on South Dubuque Street. Bar staff approached an officer around 12:40 am and said they had video footage of a man using another person’s debit card. A review of the video showed the man, identified as 23-year-old Dalton Kollbaum of Anthon Iowa, allegedly using the card a total of four times that night to purchase alcohol at DCs and Brothers.

Upon contact, Kollbaum allegedly showed signs of intoxication, including unsteady balance, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol. He gave the officer his wallet and a concealed weapons permit was reportedly discovered. Kollbaum was patted down, and the officer felt a bank card in his front left pocket. The card was reportedly the victim’s.

The victim, who didn’t know Kollbaum, then showed police the four separate charges, using the bank app on his phone. It reportedly confirmed Kollbaum’s purchases were made using the victim’s card.  Upon arrest, he refused a PBT.

Kollbaum was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card and public intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
