Hiding in the bushes to prevent getting arrested can be an effective strategy, but when those bushes are outside a police station, chances are your odds of succeeding drop dramatically.

That’s what happened to a Los Angeles man in Iowa City last week.

According to the arrest report, 41-year-old Blaise Hermsen was asked to leave a downtown bar around 11:45 on November 22nd. He allegedly started arguing with staff, trying to get back in. As officers arrived, they observed Hermsen staggering away, and he eventually hid in the bushes outside the PD.

Hermsen reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred confused speech, had the odor of ingested alcohol and had an open bottle of alcohol on him. He refused a post-arrest PBT and was charged with Public Intoxication.

Court records show Hermsen was arrested again on Saturday on the same charge, as well as providing false ID information.

On Monday, Hermsen pleaded guilty in Johnson County Court and was fined $105 for each count.
