The Iowa City Community School District board has approved the implementation of its five-year plan, beginning in 2023.

The Daily Iowan reports that the district plans to reduce proficiency gaps in reading and math in racial and academic demographic groups, such as English Language Learners, Individualized Education Plan learners, and Free or Reduced Lunch users.

The goal is to have 80 percent of the district students to be proficient or advanced in math and reading on state assessment scores. The district will track the progress using the state scores to meet its goal of at least 60 percent median student growth.

The strategic plan will also focus on school culture, workforce, and systems and resources.

Superintendent Matt Degner says the strategic plan will be posted on the District website to be shared with all schools.
