An Iowa City man who claimed he has a spelling issue was arrested for driving while barred and providing false ID information.

Police stopped 39-year-old Plimio Zuniga Duron of Alyssa Court Southwest Monday night just before 10 pm because the registration sticker on the Ford pickup he was driving had expired. Police checked the registration sticker and found that it was for a different vehicle.

Upon contact, Zuniga-Duron said he was unable to provide identification. He allegedly stated his Renee Duren Zuniga with a birthdate a year later than his actual date of birth. When no record was found under the name Zuniga-Duron gave, his true name was discovered.

His license status was found to be barred until July of 2024.

Police say Zuniga-Duron stated that he often forgets how to spell his full name and his date of birth when asked by law enforcement.

Zuniga-Duron was charged with driving while barred and providing false ID information. He could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
