A suspect in an assault has been arrested for intoxication at the Iowa City Public Library.

37-year-old transient Elizabeth Leiss was arrested at the library just after 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. Iowa City Police say Leiss was on the library’s second floor being belligerent while holding an open container of Four Loko. She allegedly needed help getting down the stairs and refused breath testing.

Leiss was wanted for a reported assault at Shelter House on the afternoon of February 24th. The alleged victim reports she discovered Leiss going through her items in their common living space. When confronted, Leiss allegedly began hitting the woman in the face and head before leaving the room.

The confrontation reignited in a hallway, leading to a staff member trying to intervene. Leiss allegedly went around the staffer and continued the assault.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance video. Leiss is now charged with Assault and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.
