An overnight traffic stop in Iowa City has led to weapons and drug charges against a West Branch man.

Iowa City Police pulled over a 1992 Chevy Caprice being driven by 41-year-old Dave Brown of Bradley Lane just before 12:30 Tuesday morning near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Court Street. Brown reportedly admitted to having marijuana and a gun inside the vehicle.

A search of the car reportedly turned up 2.8 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana in the center console and a loaded Smith & Wesson SD40VE pistol under the driver’s seat.

Brown has a previous drug conviction out of South Carolina. He now faces charges of Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons and Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2nd Offense. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
