The Iowa City Community School District has removed a book from school shelves that was believed to be tied to bomb threats made to Northwest Junior High.

The school was evacuated after threats were received on consecutive days last week. Investigators say a Twitter account called “Libs of TikTok” has been targeting the school regarding the alleged inclusion of the book “This Book is Gay” in the school’s library. The Twitter account claims the book promotes “gay sex” and the use of “sex apps”. The book is actually geared towards LGBTQ+ youth who are having difficulty coming out and being openly gay among other adolescents.

School officials have now removed the book from shelves at libraries at Northwest and other district schools. District officials say it will now be subjected to the book reconsideration process outlined in board policy, meaning it could eventually be returned to district libraries.

The Libs of TikTok account has targeted multiple schools nationwide about the book…some of which have received similar bomb threats. A Sioux City high school has also removed the book from its shelves after receiving threats.

The Washington Post reports the “Libs of TikTok” account is run by Brooklyn, New York, real estate agent Chaya Raichik.
