An Iowa City man was booked at the Johnson County  Jail Friday on a warrant stemming from an overdose that caused a vehicle crash.

The incident occurred just before 4 pm on January 27th. 32-year-old Ross Cornwall of Blazing Star Drive reportedly overdosed while operating his 2014 BMW on Sand Road and crashed his vehicle. Officers observed an unknown substance in plain view in Cornwall’s vehicle. The substance was tested and came back positive for fentanyl.

Cornwall reportedly admitted to using a narcotic earlier that day, and had previously overdosed a week prior to the incident.

A warrant was requested, and Cornwall was charged Friday with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year if convicted.
