A North Liberty man has been found guilty in a Benton County murder case.

A jury came back with the guilty verdict on Friday in the case of 39-year-old Tacoa Talley. Talley and his girlfriend, Samantha Bevans, were accused of suffocating Bevans’ stepmother, Jodie Bevans, in her Palo home last July by holding a pillow over her face. Two days later, Talley and Samantha Bevans made a Snapchat video where they admited to committing the crime. In the video, Samantha Bevans says, “I killed her. I killed her myself,” as Talley says “And I knew this would happen, so good job.”

The couple reportedly committed the murder in order to get at money that they believed was in the family’s home safe.

Talley’s sentencing is set for June 2nd. 1st Degree Murder carries a mandatory life sentence.

Samantha Bevans is to be tried separately in Benton County District Court beginning September 25th.
