North Liberty man accused of bringing replica rifle onto Ped Mall

A North Liberty man faces charges that he brought a replica rifle onto the Ped Mall.

Iowa City Police responded to El Ray’s Live & Dive on Iowa Avenue just after 1am Friday for a report of an armed subject. The suspect…identified as 20-year-old Dayvon Long of South Park Ridge Road…was found a short time later on the Ped Mall. He was holding a cross body bag which investigators believed contained a gun based on photos Long had recently posted on social media that reportedly show him holding a firearm.

Police say Long ran from officers and struggled once he was taken into custody. An officer injured his hand while detaining him.

An air rifle replica handgun was reportedly found inside Long’s bag. He’s now charged with Carrying Weapons in a Park, Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury, Interference With Official Acts Involving a Firearm, and Being Underage in a Bar After 10pm. If convicted on all chagres, Long faces a maximum of over six years in prison.
