Iowa City Police went above and beyond in trying to give a ride home to a subject who was causing issues in front of the Johnson County Jail earlier this week. The man allegedly responded by leading them on a wild goose chase, ending in his eventual arrest.

The incident started when 35-year-old Todd Brodie of Taylor Drive was reportedly throwing things outside the jail on South Capitol Street just before 12:15 Wednesday morning. He told responding officers he would like a ride to the hospital. The police complied, but once at the hospital Brodie allegedly refused to go inside and requested to go to another location. Brodie reportedly changed the destination multiple times before he finally ended up at the Waterfront Hy-Vee around 12:45am. He refused to get out of the vehicle and was taken into custody on a charge of Interference With Official Acts. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.

Brodie is currently facing a separate charge of Disorderly Conduct – Obstructing a Street or Sidewalk after police say he intentionally obstructed traffic near the corner of Gilbert and Burlington Streets just before 2:45am on April 22nd.
