An overnight fire at Geneva Towers in Cedar Rapids has displaced a resident.

According to a release from the city’s Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 2:43 am by an automatic alarm, followed up by reports of smoke on the 7th floor of the 12-story building. Arriving firefighters were met with smoke on the floor, then found the apartment where the fire originated.  The fire was extinguished in time for it to prevent it from spreading to additional floors or apartments.

Crews evacuated all the residents on the seventh floor. They were allowed to return to their apartments once the smoke had been ventilated.

An unidentified 65-year-old man was displaced. He and a 45-year-old man were transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

The building had a fire on February 20th, 2022 that hit the 9th and 10th floors. The entire building was evacuated in that incident, with a few residents taken to local hospitals for treatment of smoke exposure and medical issues.
