A convicted felon was arrested this week after allegedly trying to purchase firearms.

Police say 39-year-old Keshawn Shaw of Dickinson Drive in North Liberty was seen on surveillance video at the firearms section of Theisen’s on Westcor Drive the morning of April 15th.  A clerk was seen handing Shaw two firearms, which he held in both hands.  Shaw and the clerk then filled out the ATF Firearm Transaction form, where Shaw allegedly provided false information about not being a convicted felon or drug user.

Shaw was interviewed by authorities, and reportedly admitted to having smoked marijuana every couple of days since he was a kid.  He also has prior felony convictions out of Cook County Illinois.

A warrant for Shaw’s arrest was issued on April 28th; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Monday night. He faces two counts of Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon and Giving False Information to Purchase a Weapon. If convicted on all counts, Shaw could be sentenced to up to fifteen years in prison.
